Author: MDDUS | Date: 05 May 2026

MDDUS has been named Professional Services Company of the Year at the British Business Awards, following a national judging process that recognises excellence across the UK business community.

The organisation secured the accolade at the star-studded ceremony in Edinburgh on Thursday evening, where businesses from across the country were recognised for outstanding performance, innovation and impact in their respective sectors.

MDDUS was selected ahead of a competitive shortlist including AFS Group, Dow Schofield Watts, Graham + Sibbald, Grant Thornton UK, Henderson Loggie, Murgatroyd and Selway.

The award recognises the Glasgow-headquartered medical defence organisation’s continued growth, market leadership and commitment to supporting more than 70,000 healthcare professionals throughout the UK.

Judges assessed shortlisted firms across business performance, innovation, workforce and culture, customer impact and contribution to society and the wider economy.

Over the past two decades, MDDUS has more than tripled its membership and now supports doctors and dentists nationwide with medico-legal advice, indemnity and wellbeing services.

The not-for-profit mutual has also built a large in-house legal and advisory team in its sector, comprising specialist lawyers, doctors and dentists who provide support to members 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The business has also continued to invest heavily in digital transformation, member services and proactive wellbeing initiatives in recent years as demand for support among healthcare professionals continues to grow.

Chris Kenny, Chief Executive of MDDUS, said: “This is a tremendous honour for MDDUS and a proud moment for everyone across the organisation.

“To be recognised among such high-calibre businesses is a significant achievement and reflects the extraordinary expertise, commitment and compassion shown by our people every day in supporting healthcare professionals through some of the most challenging moments of their careers.

“This award is recognition of a collective effort across the whole organisation and of the values that continue to drive MDDUS forward.

“As I prepare to step down from MDDUS in August, I am immensely proud of what the team has achieved together and I’m confident of a robust future for the organisation.”

The British Business Awards are regarded as one of the UK’s leading cross-industry business honours, with winners chosen by an independent panel of senior business leaders.

This year’s ceremony featured appearances from George Clooney, Sir Bob Geldof, Rob Brydon and Elaine C Smith, while also raising significant funds for homelessness charity Social Bite.

The award comes at a significant moment for the organisation, with Chief Executive Chris Kenny preparing to step down after eleven years in post, ahead of incoming chief executive Raman Sankaran taking the helm later this year.

It also follows a period of increased public profile for the organisation, with MDDUS playing a prominent role in national debates around clinician wellbeing, healthcare workforce sustainability and patient safety.

The organisation recently published its Wellbeing by Design report, contributing to wider policy discussions on improving working conditions for healthcare professionals.

MDDUS said the award reflected both its commercial performance and its wider purpose-driven mission to safeguard the careers, wellbeing and professional futures of medical and dental practitioners.
